Considering that the cold end of the 15w40 is almost as thick in rating as the Ford Spec'd 5w20, I'd reccomend against it. I'd bet that you'd have a ton of startup wear.
How about 15w40 to reduce consumption in a 1993 Lincoln 4.6 110,000 miles? This vehicle currently consumes a quart of oil every 500 miles and has had 5w20,5w30,10w30, and 10w40. Consumption was reduced to a quart per 1000 miles using 10w40.
I run the Rotella 15w-40 in my 460 on my truck. I'm not saying its good for it or anything. If it's not good for it I would definetly like to know and would switch.
Your in GA and the engine consumes a lot of oil. Go for it. 15W-40 is not going to hurt it. 5W-20 is great for a new engine under warranty, but this one is already worn. I have seen Delo 15W-40 drastically cut oil usage in old engines, and I have used it down to about 25F.

Thanks for your advice. The Lincoln I mentioned belongs to my neighbor who bought the car at an estate sale in 2003 with no history. The vehicle was 10 years old and had 80,000 miles. Probably short trip driven prior to 2003.
