When was the last time you defragged the hdd? Run it till the red is out. If the box is freezing up while running uninstall, do you get an error msg re: program not responding?" If not, run it all night. Is it freezing while running Add/Remove Programs? If it is, go to start, run, type "msconfig" and on the last tab, turn off all apps. you have listed there. Restart the machine, then select "no" when the popup comes on. After you do this, then run Add/Remove programs again.

msconfig startup only has norton turned on.disc defrag is done once per week.
program not resopnding mesage 2 seconds after trying to uninstall or delete.

Is AOL one of your Norton "protected" files? Youy may have to turn off or uninstall Norton first.

I have to work on these things everyday, and the programs that cause the most hassles are AHo!eHe!!, SnortonSmack, and McaffeeGumItUp. I also see probs. with other "free" downloaded programs.

People, listen up: "Free" ain't free! READ THE EULA (end user license agreement) BEFORE YOU INSTALL! All kinds of bad things can be done when you grant someone unlimited access to your computer.

There are about three or four ways you can get *****'s setup to run at startup - the startup folder and the registry are the two most obvious. There are startup scanners that will check all the mechanisms and show you where they live and how they get started. Good to check everyone once in a while and see what's running that shoudln't be. It's like changing your oil - you got to do it periodically if you run windoze. If you get real tired of all that waste of time then you can get a Mac. OS X is not problem free, but it's a lot less hassle than XP for issues like this...
