Hi all. I just thought I would run my proposed setup by you before I go out and spend some cash.
1) The truck is a 1978 F-250 SuperCab Camper special.
2) The Engine is a 400, stock, other that an Edel. Carb (650cfm) & Intake.
3) The Exhaust is currently stock, and is a single pipe.
I am thinking of...
1) Installing a set of Headman ceramic headers
2) Dual 2 1/2 inch pipes with Flowmaster Super 40's on Each.
I am not to concerned about a performance boost as I am about the sound. Although a noticable boost in performance would be nice. I just want a deep throughty truck that is not too anoying to drive. This is my daily driver and I am not concerned about upseting people when I start the thing up, becasuse I live on a farm and have no one else around.
I you think this is a good setup or a bad one, let me know. Or if you have another idea for a good setup, let me know.
I think it would sound awsome. I bet glasspacks would sound good too, if you didn't want to spend a fortune. Also, V-Force mufflers are really good, and not too expensive. Just a friendly suggestion, go with the 2.5" pipes like you said, and put some 3" chrome tips exiting out behind the rear tire, about dead center between the wheel well opening and the bumper. The reason is, you will get the best overall sound dispersion. If they are pointed straight back, only people behind you will hear them. If you put turndowns on, it will be louder (both in and out of the cab), because the sound will be bouncing off the road, but your truck won't sound as good. Out the side behind the tire is far enough away from you that it ain't annoying to your ear, but people driving by (and people you pass up) will get a good earful.

on my 79 351M, i came off the crossover pipe with a 2 1/2 to 3 adapter, then a 3 inch flowmaster 50 series, 18 inches of 3 inch out to a 45º turndown. sounds awesome.
Drop the 40 series for 2 Magnaflows P/N: 12256, that will give a decent throaty sound and keep it toned down inside the cab so you can actually hear yourself think. Other then that it looks like a good setup.
