Some Michigan friends of mine invited me to Autorama 2006. On friday we took my truck to a friends shop and hollowed out my cat and then MIG'd it back on.
The truck sounds awesome(2.5L engine) and I picked up some acceleration, not much more though. I like how the truck does sound like a 4banger but it doesn't sound like rice IMO. It sounds more like a low end torquey engine that's got a pair.
The only drawback is the hollowing sound I get from the cat. It's somewhat annoying when the engine is cold, but it seems to fade away some as the engine gradually warms up. I think later on sometime I'll cut the cat back off and run a straight pipe throught it.
I can post up some sound clips by next week nextime I get home from college.
