After squeezing one of those cheesy hose clamps for the umpteenth time,I finally got it off, only to have it slip from the channel locks. After attracting the attention of the kids and grandkids with a few choice words,I went and found one of those chinsy little c-clamps that I have no idea where I got it or why I have it.Works great, saves my fingers, fingernails and,my dignity(what little I have left)
I'm with olddawg, detest those cheap, assembly line use clamps. Furthermore, you shouldn't need a dedicated special tool just to move a hose clamp, it grates on us old timers who see these clamps as a step backward in technology.
Watch out for those pos hose clamps we've had a few break while on the road and have the truck puke its inards out in the middle of an intersection.
I'm with oldawg also this a step backwards!
I love the old Ideal Stainless Steel clamps.

I Was Helping My Mom Do Cooling System Work, And The Hoses Had Never Been Taken Off, Leaving The Fun Ford Clamps. (BTW, I Work In a Junkyard. Even Old Fords Have Those @#!@#!@ On The Hoses) Anyhow, She Takes The Clamp Off With Channel Locks, And Says, Here, Take This. So I Put My Hands Out, And SNAP! Off Comes The Tension Of The Clamp, Ripping Open Skin Pretty Deep In My Palm. God! That Hurt! So, I Hurl The Clamp Into The Street Screaming Curses!!! Since Then, I Hate Those Clamps.

If You Use The Clamps You Can Use A Socket, Or A Straight Blade Screwdriver, ONLY, I Repeat, ONLY Buy American! Japanese Versions Of The Clamps, Use Crap Metal, And Tend To Strip Out. Maybe That Explains Rice Burners Another Crappy Metal Product! Working In a Junkyard, I Get Access To Plenty Of Hose Clamps, And Have Never Had To Buy Another Hose Clamp! Take Them Home, Clean Them Up, And I Have Containers, Boxes, Etc Full Of Them. USA & Canada Hose Clamps Are Good. Steer Clear Of Japanese Junk! (You Avoid The Cars They Have The Nerve To Build, Avoid The Products Also!) Do Not Even Get Me Started On Rice Burners!!!!
I always use a pair of needlenose vise grips to RIP them dang spring clamps off the hose. I also do the same to those cheesy "draw up" type screw clamps that Ford used on all of the old 70's vehicles. Just give them a twist and they depart this world.
Stainless steel worm drive USA/Canada hose clamps are the only way to go.
When I go junk yarding I collect clamps too :-) -And odd lug nuts, screws, bolts, nuts, and washers also. Automotive fasteners are good.
