LAST EDITED ON 24-Mar-01 AT 08:01 PM (EST)[p]The back of my cab is starting to have tiny rust holes at the floor where it meets the back of the cab wall how could I fix that? Could i clean the holes up with a wire wheel for the back of the cab would I have to use a tac weld?
The raised rust spots that are about 2" in front of the tiny holes? how would I fix them?
For replacing floor pans would a plasma cutter work? I dont want to start cutting and find out it will hurt my frame or something.
I also have a leaking problem its on the firewall I think when ever it rains the little lip on the fire wall where the floorpan starts fills with water and then it gets in the cab how could I fix that problem?
Has anyone ever seen the back slider windows in catalogs by CR Laurence they are supose to be like the 97-01 truck back sliders with only 3 panals of glass, the one in mine was replaced but you can feel air coming in through spots in the framing of the window I dont want to order one and end up with the same problem.
Where would I have to go to get new seat belts? would ford dealers still offer them after 23years?
One more thing has anyone ever put in the headliner with center console and 4 built in speakers that JC Whitney has? it looks like insolation could put but above it to stop the noise from rain.
I just finished the rust work on my cab. The floor had heavy rust that pitted the metal but didn't go all the way thru (no holes). I use a wire brush and stripper, took it down to bare metal and used the Por15 product for the first time. It seems to work excellent, I paid $29 for a quart and used about 1/3 of it on the floor of the cab. I did all the sunken areas, the two bowls on either side up to the seam of the firewall and back to the front seat mounts and out to the edge of the door. You can use fiberglass with this stuff too if you want to add some material or fill over a hole. they use this stuff on frames when doing a resto project and it has a great rep.
I've heard the JCW speaker setup is ok but the speakers are poor, I'm using Herculiner for sound deadining in the cab and roof.
Thanks I will have to buysome of the Por-15 where my dad works they have every tourch every welder that I can think of. He can take it in and work on it. For sound deading how does the hurculiner work? I want it to be quiet in the cab. I have open headers right now and its getting to the point where i cant stand it much longer the only thing that gets worse is rain hitting the top of the cab and leaking in from the lip on the fire wall.
The cab is two part at the top, I removed the liner and rust treated it, I'm getting ready to coat it with the Herculiner. I tested the Herculiner in two spots and IF you follow the directions to rough it up first, it sticks very well. I used a 1500# pressure washer to test it, I held up good.
You can hear the difference right off the bat, but I noticed about the same effect from the rubberized undercoating that I used on the fire wall. I coated the inside of the fire wall about 1/8 yo 3/16 thick with many coats of standard rubberized undercoating and this stuff really work great. It was only $2.99 a can on sale! The only problem is that it wouldn't wear well on a area where you put your feet.
What is it with the '77 cabs rusting out? I have a 77 F150 4x4 shortbox with dual exhust and 33" tires. Man is that sucker loud inside the cab! (The exhust leaks a little around the headers) I also have very much rust problems. So much in fact that I want to replace the cab and just not work on it. Unfortunetly, my problem is bees and wasps keep making thier homes in my cab and I have to battle every month or so. My girlfriend won't even 4 wheel with me anymore until I get it fixed. How did the fiberglass over the rust hole work out? Solve the problem? How did it look after you were done?
