Did The Prepump Mod Today

Was talking to a buddy yesterday that has a race car and he was using a wix fuel filter # 33003 on his fuel line that was feeding 2 Huge Holley Carbs. He said that filter would flow 110gph, no problem. So I got 2 this morning from Oreillys for 3.99 each and did the prepump mod, kept 1 for a spare. Also got some 3/8 Multi fuel rated Injection line ($5.70 a ft) and 8 clamps. I only had about 1/8 of a tank of fuel so when i was finished i had my son crank it up and the clear filter was showing nothing but foam,I mean Pure foam too, even after about 15mins of running..Went and filled the tank and came back home and noticed a big difference in cackle and clatter, much quieter for sure. Crawled under the truck and nothing but fuel flowing then,no foam at all.Did notice there was a few small chunks of rubber in the filter that must have gotten in the line from when I cut that cheessy factory fuel line off. Like kwik and many others have said, if you get down to less than a 1/4 tank you will pick up a lot of air. So far i am very pleased with this mod.!!

If you do the in-tank mod kit, you no longer have to worry about air in the fuel below 1/4 of a tank either. Just something to think about for the future.

MRBASS, do you know what micron rating those filters are?
Strokin, don't rule out the Dahl yet. Keep in mind that the Dahl is a water seperator too. Plus, it filters down to 2 microns. If you plan on doing an external regulated fuel system, and putting a small bleed orifice in it, you might want the extra fine filtration to keep that orifice from getting clogged.

Asked my buddy that question, and the guy at Oreillys,,Neither one had a clue. I'm not even sure if they knew what a micron rating was.! Looks alot like the filter Kwik uses, only its clear. I was actually worried about flow as much as i was filtration. Hopefully when i hook up to the 40ft RV and the bass boat, and take off to colorado I wont find a Fuel restriction problem. I should be in the 22-24000lb Range once i get Loaded and gone so fuel flow will be critical..

I noticed a big difference in sound after tha mod, too. Very nice. Now intead of CLATTER I hear DIESEL. Much improved.

I did the in tank mod, too. I can run mine down to "E" with no problem - I even got low enough to see the 'low fuel' light come on, and no additional clatter.

According to the Wix website it is a "Nominal 20 micro rating"
Heres the link http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...asp?Part=33003

They dont give any flow numbers...

Well 20 micron = 0.000787402 inch, so it should filter fine enough no to plug the .008" orifice that I used in my regulated return system.

Got about a 100 miles on the prepump mod today. Not only is it much quieter but i really think Throttle response is better. checked the filter several times today and never did see any foam or trace of air. As cheap as this mod is, it for sure should be on the TO DO list for anyone with a powerstroke..Less than 10 bucks with a foot of hose and 8 Clamps., cant beat that!!

So you just eliminated the Ford compression fittings and haven't done the in tank mod? Did you have to drop the tank to get to that fitting? Been thinking this is something I want to do as well, just hasn't been warm enough as of yet to tackle any projects that require much outside work. I am fortunate to have a long truck, and an all natural all weather shop in front of my house. Won't fit in garage.

I just received my Pre pump/In tank kit from Diesel Manor. I should be out of fuel buy next weekend. Does anyone have and advice, tricks, don’t do’s, or BKM’s (Best Known Methods), before drop the tank and get started?? I also ordered a System 1 fuel filter from Diesel Manor to go along with my tank modifications, any opinions or life experiences on this filter will also be appreciated. Thanks… Jeff in NM…OUT

Spec's on System 1 Filter from Diesel Manor..
Billet aluminum construction
-Brilliant red anodized finish
-75 Micron S.S. reusable mesh filter element (30 micron also available).
-3/8" barbed ends.
-Bench tested flow rate of 1440GPH with the 30 micron element (75 micron has significantly higher flow rate).
-2" O.D. x 6" long.
