Hink, you beat me to it. What you did was exactly what I had in mind. And it's good to know that, yes it's warmer than a strict cold air intake, it's not that bad.
And we have an intercooler.
Now if someone really wants to lay this to rest they need to strap in several different brands of filter kits and see what the temperature is for each one.
I for one don't have that kind of energy or curiosity. It's simply not too hot for the engine to tolerate, even in rush hour traffic in the middle of Pheonix, AZ.
Not a perfect experiment, but gives us an idea. The temp difference will probably be a bit more at higher ambient temps, I hope to find out soon. Looks like there's not too much to worry about.
