Question A Timing Question

I have a 96 E-350 and a 97 E-SD. Both about 70k. Both have E4OD and both have 4.10 rear. The weight of each is within a few hundred pounds. The 96 seems much more responsive. When I put my foot down it goes. With the 97 it seems to pull out much slower. A bit sluggish through all the gears, but mostly at take off. Could this be a timing problem? Both trucks have stock engines. Thanks for any help.

Could be many things: condition of engines, turbos, injectors, etc.... It is most likely not timing that is something that just doesnt get out of wack on these engines unless its changed by a chip or programmer.

Thanks for the reply. How do you check injectors and turbos? It starts right up, even in cold weather, and does not smoke at all. It seems to run ok, just a little slower than the 96. But it is supposed to have a little more HP.

How about something like fuel pressure. Could that do it?

could just be as simple as using a good fuel conditioner with a double dose to clean things up. Air/fuel filter will make it act up. Could also be the fact that the diff ratio is different. Different emision controls will make them act differently too. it just seems that these engines are more sensitive than a chapped baby butt and little things make them act up. Always go with cheap fixes first ... double dose of fuel additive will make a bigger difference than you may think. Good luck and let us know how ya make out.

I already had new filters in. So I got a double dose of Power Service. I couldn't find Diesel Clean. And add a can of Justice Brothers to go with it. After about 250 miles I am starting to see some difference. This is supposed to be a warm week end so I am going to pull the cover (it is an E series) and check everything out. I think there might be a problem with the accelerator pedal too. Thanks for the help.
