96 F350 PSD E4OD Transmission & F5TA-DA Transfer-case swap into 97 E350 PSD?

Hi All,
I've located a E4OD/F5TA-DA from a 96 PSD F350 for sale on CL that I'd like to buy & swap into my 97 PSD E350 to transform it into a 4x4 van. Both van's & donor E4ODs have a '27' stamped into top of case near bell-housing. I believe from research that the van's 7.3L PSD is a small block & would guess that the F350's was not. Will this swap succeed or are these components not interchangeable? Thanks in advance for any & all comments, advice, & guidance!

IH cast one block for the t444e/ 7.3psd. If you have a PSD engine I believe it will bolt up.
I can not comment on the other aspects of the swap.sounds very cool either way!

There is no small block 7.3L. All 7.3L engines are the same bolt pattern. The trans should work fine.

Among the questions you'll need to ask/answer are:
* What rear driveshaft to use
* What front axle/driveshaft to use
* How/where to install the shifter
* What PCM to use

(I'm sure there are more....)

^^^^ I guess the "What front...." above should have included - what front _suspension_ to use. Will the truck leaf spring packs that go with a Dana 60 mount to a van frame? Obviously SOME suspension for a 4x4 axle does, since there are lots of 4x4-ified vans of this era running around.

Hey waitaminit - we have a whole SECTION dedicated to the bread-boxes here on FTE -- 1968-2013 Full Size Vans - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums . Bet a nickel and an old rusted doghouse bolt that someone over there has done it, or owns a conversion, or what-not.

Thank-you for your response, Mark Kovalsky... Your expert opinion was what I was looking for.. & thank-you madpogue I will look there to see what I can find. Among the bullet points you posted, 1 stands out as unknown for me. Will 97 7.3L PSD E350 PCM command a 96 7.3L PSD F350 transmission to shift & operate properly or require mod to be compatible? An electronic ratio adapter will be used to spoof PCM into accepting pulse driven VSS signal vs. gear driven that it is looking for so it will accept shift points in 4L. The axles & suspension were pulled from a 04 6.0L PSD Excursion. Front axle is a Dana 50 & rear is a 10.25 Sterling. The front leaf springs that came with D-50 wont bolt up to van natively but biggest obstacles as far as fitment of things underneath are van's driver side framerail mounted fuel tank & engine crossmember. The fuel tank is too long for transfer case to fit & engine crossmember doesn't clear D-50 differential. The polypropylene fuel tank from Excursion will move in where spare tire used to live in back of van so framerail tank will be retired. A skid plate will be fabbed to cradle it back there. Transmission crossmember will be lengthened to accomodate transfer case. Engine crossmember will require a 1" trim across driver's side beam to clear diff & front driveshaft.
