You should get you a clear fuel filter from pep boys, autozone, advance, or where ever for about 9 buck then look at it and see if the pump is putting trash from the tank into the carb. I have a clear filter and the filter that screws into the carb both hooked up. I used to keep an extra fuel filter in the truck with me cause after a while (couple of months if not more) it would die and I would get out on side of the road put the new filter on and be gone again in 5 minutes. But i would definetly get a clear fuel filter so you can see what the gas going into the carb looks like. just my 2 cents added to the bunch. good luck!

Rebuild the carb, make sure the check ***** are in the right
places. Also pull the fuel line at the carb and make sure fuel
is flowing, (disable ignition, turn engine over see if pump/filter/
lines are clear for tank/flow). A lot of setiment/contaminants can
build up over time.

Putting in a rebuild kit is a snap. It will take a couple hours though. You need a couple of cans of carb cleaner and make sure you spray all little holes in the carb body. The Pep Boys carbs are also rebuilt.
Pull your fuel filter off. It's as easy as removing an oil filter. See what it looks like. Maybe it's all plugged up. I think if your carb runs fine sometimes then it should run fine always. That's why I think you maybe have a fuel supply problem.
