So I went to install my new MBRP system last night and ran into a question. Looking into the exaust you can see little sail type vents (?) inside. I was thinking they should catch the exaust when installed to muffle the sounds. The instrtustions seem to indicate that the air flow is the exact other way from what made sense.
So, which way has everyone else installed the exaust? Sails catching the exaust or away from the exaust?
with th sails going in the direction of the exhaust. think of it as water, if it got caught in the rough part ti would be turbulent and a mess. The other way allows the exhaust to spiral out. That thing would be nasty with soot if you pt it in backwards. I love my MBRP

Thats excactly right. It can go either way depending on how loud you want it. The way you describe above is the quiet direction, opposite would be louder. I have mine the loud direction. I tried it both ways and really theres not a big difference in sound.
Well, I installed it like the docs said in the "recommended airflow" direction, so the sails spiral the exaust and do not catch it. So far I only have the cat back done. Waiting on my friend to come over then we will do the down pipes and his truck. Driving to work this morning I noticed you can not tell the diff between MBRP and stock at idle. When you start to go you can tell sound wise
I will also say it was not as loud as I thought it would be.
I completely removed the muffler and added a straight pipe to my 05 PSD and it isn't as loud as I thought it would be either!! Sounds great at 2200 revs tho...
I had the same thoughts about the sound, growls on start up ,whistle real nice at idle and under throttle sounds great. hiway speeds you can hear a great rumble (give some break it time). It has just enough sound for me ut not to loud. Have some one else drive it and ride alongside in another car, you will be amazed at what it sound like. jet plan and big block all in one. Now I want the cat-delete pipe. I am glad I did the turbo-back...Enjoy
This past weekend my bud and I changed his '02 350 to the MBRP 4" trubo back. His sounds better then mine but I think that is due to him not having the cat in the way. We also finshed the turbo to cat portion of my '05. Man, not sure which was harder to remove the down pipe, the 7.3l or the 6.0l. We ended up cutting both out and that was not really a fun task
All in all we are both glad we installed them ourselves, and we both like the look & sound.
