How hard is it to install dual exaust on a 54 239v8? It looks kinda crowded on the drivers side. Its in a 53 f-100. I have NEVER liked the crossover pipe that is on it plus I want some mellow tunes to come out the back! I know I will need a differnt exaust manifold so where might I find some info on it?
Thanks in advance cause Yall never fail to help.
The Rams Horns have proven to be nearly as "efficient" as headers and look really nice.
My choice was the Rams Horns. I seem t remember them being around $350 and I also had them ceramic coated (inside and out) They look REALLY nice and will never rust.
Once I am ready, I'll run it into a muffler shop and have them install the rest of it using (medium-sounding) Flowmasters or equivalent mufflers.

You can buy universal kits that come with mandrel bent U and J shapes along with straight pipe. Then you cut and weld your own system. Otherwise unless you are building a race truck I highly doubt the crush bends would matter, especially after seeing the dyno test on YouTube with while they smashed the header tubes almost closed and saw no real HP loss.

was looking at the kits but it would be nice to have them made out of a piece or two of pipe instead of 20 individually welded pieces.
The video you referred to was very interesting. I've always thought dinging the headers hurt flow but seems that ain't so.

Forgot to tell you. Many Y Blockers like Smitty Mufflers. I think they sound old school.
I've seen the stock manifolds used as duals but you have to circle the drivers side forward and then down, not atheistically pleasing IMO. DON'T try car manifolds or headers they won't clear the steering gear.
Looks good Dan. Sure wish that 2nd picture was clearer.
What parts did you order. I'm thinking about using the stainless clamps so I can play around with Mufflers until I find some I'm happy with.
I bought a kit from Summit Racing that had 2.5 inch aluminumized pipe with a pre-made X-pipe. Bought 4 J-pipes and 12 stainless steel clamps. I also bought two 24 inch reversible mufflers from Summit.
I sanded down all the pipes after cutting and welding a few bends. I painted everything with a high temperature black spray paint.
If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have painted them black (the paint scratches easily - silver might have been better.) Mufflers have a deep tone but are not loud. Just what I wanted.
All in all, I spent about $300, but was able to build a custom exhaust system that I am very happy with.
If you buy the SS clamps, they come with small pieces of hi temp fiber material. The fiber material goes between the pipe and clamp. They help to hold the pipes inside the clamps. The clamps must be tightened to 55 foot pounds of torque. Clamps work great.
I also bought tail pipe hangers from ebay. They are welded on to the pipe and bolted to the frame. Nice and tight.

I agree with that. I was considering doing a stainless system and weld up my own but I may also just use aluminized bends and pipe, and then just weld them up myself. I made my own down-pipes using 3/8" flanges and a couple of bends and they went together pretty easy.
