Right now i am powering my 2 Kicker Comp 12's off of an old 4 channel kenwood thats max output is only 250watts.... and I have it bridged into a 2 channel mode. I have 8ohm subs and am looknig at another kenwood that puts out 175watt RMS per channel(2 channel) in a 4 ohm configuration. According to a rockford fosgate wiring diagram if I keep my subs wired in parallel it will be a 4ohm load at the power source. My question is should i bridge the amp or should i use each channel individually. The max RMS on the subs is around 150. The amp is model KAC-7252 if anyone needs to know. Thanks in advance.
Ok, that helped a good bit, but just to make sure, that amp is rated at 500 watt RMS in briged mode, so are my subs gonna get close to 250 a peice, or is it gonna be less? I just don't wanna blow my subs, the RMS rating is only 150.
u should be ok, just dont turn the amp up all the way :P
just remember, it depends on the brand of amp, a jenson 500 isnt going to put out 500 but a rockford 500 might make 700... this stuff really needs to to be handled better, haha
You're Kickers will be fine. About 10 years ago I had a 95 Misubishi Mirage that was sponsored by Kicker. My windshield said "EARGASM" across it. It had 4 Kicker Comp 18s runnin off 4 Kicker 500ss amps. I had two 360ss amps runing the 4 sets of Kicker Resolution Components. I was funny to have kids pull up with their car hitting hard and when I pumped up the 18s they would just turn around to see what just ran over their bass...lol That car got STOLEN!!! Came out of the night club I bounced at to find the car missing off the corner. Cops said a roll-back truck pulled up to it and just towed it off. They thought something was wrong with it since it was right there in their faces. Car was on the Lowrider Circuit and was sponsored by Kicker, Sony Mobile ES, Lona & Sons Hydrolics, and Momo. Damn I miss that car.
In your application the Kickers will work great. They are a lighter less power demanding subwoofer. They will compliment the power going to them nicely. A quick tip for you is get some Poly-Fill from walmart or something. You can find it in the crafts section. Lightly fill the enclosure with it. Kind of pull it apart some as you put it in the box. Makes a slight difference.
Alot has changed since my old car but thier subs have been a leader for a long time. I recently installed some Comp 15's into a guys truck and was a little upset to find that they were not as beefy as they used to be. Since Kicker came out with the L5 and L7 subs they seem to have focused their attention to those leaving the Competition Series loosing weight. Lately we swapped his Kicker Comps for some DB Drive Platinum Series subs and the difference was amazing. This guy was a major Bass Head and now has a set of brand new Kicker Comps just sitting in a box...lol
Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better about that choice, I just don't have the money to get new subs if they happened to blow lol. That and I really don't want the earful i'd get if they did from the folks. I keep hearing great things about DB's but have never seen or heard any before. I may have to get some one day when I upgrade again :-p.
DB Drive has been around for some years but have been mostly in the Texas and southern region. Lately they have been making a name for themselves in the competition circuit. Kansas City hosted the USACi/IASCA world finals like they do every year and DB Drive was here in big. They took home a number of awards. They pulled up a huge semi and seemed everywhere you looked was a Team DB Drive member. I hung out in their booth for the entire weekend. Being the only DB dealer around they refer tons of people to me.
As a company they really take care of thier competitors and regular customers. They just sent me a box full of hats to give to my customers when they buy an amplifier and they often send me wall clocks, decals, banners and more. That's some pretty cool customer service. In the year and a half of selling thier product I have yet to ever return a defective unit.
