I have a 1992 F150 4.9L with a E4OD transmission. Recently the transmission is wanting to stall and slip at high speeds. Specially when it wants to switch gears. I was told that i my try to take it someone and try a backwards flush on the trans. I need to get the thing running again. I love the truck
If you have the time and money, convert it to a 5-speed, it cost about the same as a rebuilt auto but takes about 3 weeks, if you can get ahold of all the parts easily. I did on my F-350 and I get about 4 miles per gallon better!
Just an idea..................
My son has a 1992 Ford F150 Manual transmission. He replaced his starter. NOw the clutch is hard to press in and it whines. Someone told him to file down the starter or shimmy it? Any help out there. He filed it down and it worked for awhile, now it is not working again.
My 94 with the E4OD is having the same problem. I think it's electrical. Take out your glove box and make sure the wire harnesses on BOTH computers there are firmly in place. Wiggle them around and try to give them a solid connection. Report back with results. Mine seems to be working.
Did you have all the special tools and all that? How did you get it done so quick/without any problems?
I didnt need any special tools the only non tool box item I needed was a slid hammer to get the front plate off (cant remember the name). I didnt go fast I just went step by step in the manual and read everything twice then followed the words and the pictures (they help alot). I cleared my work bench off so I can lay the trannyon there and my tools and my manual without knocking things down. I took a pictures before every step and she wasnt bad. I had one problem with a clutch It was stuck to the plate. I was surprised she even ran.
