Rear Shackle Flip

Hello,
How much work is flipping the rear shackle? How Much Lift? Is it better than blocks. Thanks

not very hard. grind the rivets out. give you around 3 or 4 inches of lift. Better then blocks. Blocks will give you flex in the axle. For some reason for mine when i fliped it i had to move it ahead and down and drill new holes.

also i had to weld a piece of angle on the bottom of the frame to bolt the bottom of the shackle to. you don't really need to move it down where you would have to do that but i wanted to have more lift so i moved it down. also don't know if you will have to move it ahead like i did. mine would not work without moving it ahead. If you want to take a look its in my gallery.

A little easier option than plating the bottom of the frame and moving the bracket down is to get a set of spring hangers (the hangers that hold the front of the rear spring) and use them instead of just flipping the stock shackle bracket upside down. This will add a couple more inches of lift. The reason for moving the bracket forward is to improve the ride. You don't want the shackle straight up and down, you want it leaned at roughly a 30-40 degree angle. This will make the ride far smoother. Keep in mind that a shackle flip will decrease your carrying capacity. Shackles are meant to be used in tension applications, not compression. Too much weight will make the shackle ears buckle and collapse. This doesn't mean you can't use the truck to haul anything but you need to be careful about it . . . 600-800 pounds is about the limit with stock shackles. Another option is to upgrade to the heavy truck shackles, I think the F550 shackles if I remember right. They are a lot more stout and will handle more of a load in compression. I've built my own now which will handle pretty much anything I'd want to load in my truck.

I've got a shackle flip gallery which may give you some ideas: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=13227

Im gonna be using my Truck for truck pulling. is this gonna work for what I want to do with it. I did it to get rid of the factory block so I don't have as much flex in the rear.

I used the shackle flip kit from Sky Manufacturing in Oregon. They were really nice pieces and fit great. It was well worth the $120 that I paid for them.
