Rear shackle flip help

Has anyone done the lift in the rear where you drill the rivits out on the rear shackle brackets to get them off the frame and install them upside down and flip the shackle?. Does anyone know how much lift you get from doing this? I want to do this on my f250 crewcab.

yes I have, you mean like <A href="https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/displayimage.php?&photoid=58440&width=0">this</a> right?

you will get aprox. 3"... I usedto remember the exact amount but it has been a few months since I have done it.

<a href="https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/displayimage.php?&photoid=58439&width=0">this</a> is a comparison between a 2wd and a highboy, they both have the same tires on them but sit almost the same in the rear with the flip on the 2wd.

Check my 78 gallery for before and after pics of the shackle itself to give you an idea. I'd agree, 3-4". I'll be switching to a different bracket this week to increase the amount of lift.

Are you going to do the front? If so how? I made 3 inch traction blocks for the rear and 1 1/2 blocks for the front.

I have 6" springs and extended shackles up front though I will probably fo back to stock shackles and extend my hangers to improve my pinion angle up front. DO NOT use blocks on the front of your truck.

not to intrude or anything...

what size bolts does it take, and grade 8's are obvioously a must, and after you flip it do the holes line up?

I used 7/16 grade 8 bolts. I suppose you could punch it out a little bigger if you wanted but the holes for the rivets were 7/16 (or close to it).

I read in the factory Ford manual that any rivet in the frame that is removed should ba replaced with a grade 8 bolt one size bigger than the rivet it replaced!

Well I did have to open the whole up just slightly but I wasn't sure if that was because of the rust or not. In any event they're not going anywhere.

When you flip the rear bracket you should really move it forward 3" to get the correct angle of the shackle.

I think I used 1/2" bolts for mine and they are holding strong.

The actual height difference on my 78 F150 4wd reg. cab was 2 7/8". Just enough to remove the added lift block.

Today i tried the flip on my 75 f250 crewcab 4x2 and it lifted my truck about a half inch. Lots of work for nothing gotta love it.I looked at the pictures on ivanribic gallery and it looks like the shackle on the 4x4 is longer. Can someone get me a measurement of the distance from bolt center to center on the 4x4 rear shackle? The one off the 4x2 is only 4"long. kjkozak2 What angle should the shackle be when sitting level?

I've posted a picture of your ideal shackle angle below. Ignore the shackle angle in my gallery . . . it's only temporary until I install the new brackets.

I don't know how you only got 1/2" of lift out of that flip. I'd say my shackles are right about 4" and I got almost that much lift out of them. You can also build longer shackles or buy them. If nobody else answers I can give you exact measurements off my shackles on Thursday.

It looks like about 4 & 5/8" ctr to ctr on the 4x4 shackle I'm looking at.

I seem to reacll the ideal shackle angle being about 35 deg. That's what Ivan's looks like too.

At least that's what I've been told and how I have mine.
