what kind of gains would i see with a carb spaser? and what kind do you guys like and why? it would be going on a mild built 390 with headers single 3" pipe edelbrock rpm intake and 670 truck avenger . im just looking for a little more lower end after going with the 35" MTR's
If you want to keep low end torque use a spacer with 2 holes or 4 holes so left and right sides of intake manifold plenum are kept seperate. Doing this keeps the plenum volume smaller, so vacuum signal felt by carb is stronger. With my rpm manifold I am using a Mr. Gasket 4 hole phenolic spacer to help with the vacuum thing, and insolate the carb from all that heat the aluminum intake soaks up. It almost eliminates the hot start problems and greatly reduces the fuel boiling in the carb during hot soak after engine is turned off. Make sure to use a good electronic igniton system too. It will help from start up to full throttle. JMO, hope this helps.
thanks FEmtnmax, that is the stuff i was looking for, i do have a good MSD igniton, one more ? how thick is the spaser 1"-1 1/2". also will i gain lowend torque or just keep what i have if i didnt gain in power i problem wouldnt do it because i dont have a hot start
problem.
I'm using a 1" spacer. I dont' think you will gain any low end torque, will gain some mid-top end power with larger plenum volume. Sort of like going from 428 cj intake to 428 PI intake with a little more plenum volume. IF you have an open spacer under your carb now you should see an improvement going to the 2 or 4 hole spacer.

The 428CJ and the PI manifolds are physically identical, except the PI unit is aluminum.
I'm using the 1" phenolic on mine too. Honestly, I'm not sure I could tell any power difference when I added it but it definitely helps keep the heat down on the carb.
FordPower is right about the 2 hole and 4 hole difference. I have a C80E CJ intake, and a C6AE-H PI intake. The PI stands a little taller at the carb mounting flange. Maybe about 1/4 inch taller or a little more. I measured the plenum volume for one side of each intake. The Cj held 2000 cc and the PI held 2100 cc if I remember right. I'm not where my notes are.
