need help with my carb
i have a 64 ford f250 with a 292 and a 4 speed and i am haveing trouble i thought i had a 2 barrel then a friend said it was a 4 barrel and i was wondering how to tell the diffrence its a holley carb and also was wondering where there would be some kind of id number on it and where the screws to adjust the carb are or what they look like . thanks for any help

barrel means "tunnel that air goes through" (and is where the gas gets mixed with the air).
WARNING: please don't slap yourself in the head when you do this
1. look at the top of the carburetor (or the bottom for that matter).
2. how many barrels (or vertical tunnels or tubes or cylinders) do you see?
2 barrels looks like :

4 barrels looks like :
OO

Care to guess what a 1 barrel carburetor looks like?
As for rebuilding one, there are some links for complete holley overhauling around. I'll try to find one for you and post a link.

Although probably not your carb, they may give you
enough info to decide if you want to rebuild yours.

In my experience 90% of the time poor running Fords can be traced to weak ignition. In your case I'd look for points and then check their condition. Next I'd do a complete tune-up, plugs, plug wires, coil, pertronix ignitor or Ford Dura Spark. Check the function of the centrifugal advance in the distributor. Check for vacuum leaks. Then adjust the air bleed screws and the idle settings. Next I'd check compression and then after all is in order, re-build the holly.
