NP435 Close or Wide Ratio?

I have what I believe to be a NP 435, but is it a close or wide ratio?
I do have the low firat gear, that you have to stop to engage.
Thanks!

NP435 Close or Wide Ratio?

NP435 has an aluminum top cover, and a "push and twist" style shift stick retainer. A borg warner is all cast iron, and uses a "screw down" shift stick retainer. I don't believe there are ratio choices on the 435, but could be mistaken.

THE SURGEON GENERAL NEVER SAID A THING ABOUT SMOKIN' A CHEVY!!

NP435 Close or Wide Ratio?

I believe Ford got the wide ratio and GM and mopar got the close ratio, but that is merely a relative term as compared to say the toploader

NP435 Close or Wide Ratio?

If memory serves me correctly, the NP435 ratios are the same if they came behind the gasoline engines. Some diesels came with close ratio, 4.09 1st instead of 6.68. DF

I believe the close ratio version is known as a 445. I had one in a Fargo and recall that the ratios were better suited for just drivin' around than those in the 435 I have now in my Merc. I suppose you could make a Ford 445 if you had one of each.
