351W or M?

hey guys-
wanted to know how to tell the difference between the 351w and the 351m. My pal just picked up a 78 F250 ranger xlt, with the 351. Can somebody please tell the difference between these two and what the output (hp/torque?) is for this year? Also, was the cleveland ever offered of a truck? Just wondering. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hoss, since the W wasn't offered in that truck, and the M was in a great majority of them, I'd say without looking it's a good bet it's a M.

351w has 6 bolts holding valve cover on. 351m has 8 bolts holding valve cover on.
