why is it that as soon as you start spraying paint every bug in the world comes and finds it?
I just spent 2 days doing prep work for the hod of my Jeep, and on the 3rd coat of high gloss black all of the bugs find a way into my shop and land on it.
so now my high gloss kinda looks like anti skid.
Here is a good link for basic painting just for general info. I use a bug light the day and night before if it is in the summer. Right now it is around 30 so it's not a problem. I live in a wooded area, and have the same trouble when it's hot.
I paint a lot in my driveway and garage...don't know your bugs or weather handicaps but I have a couple of tricks. If I paint in the morning I do it just before the sun gets up too high.Just before dawn, all the night bugs go in and the sun has to warm things up a bit before the day bugs come out.So you have a little time in between when it is "quiet".And I like to mix my paint a little "hot" for whatever temp. I am working in.The faster the paint "flashes" the less critters and dust. Gound the part you are painting because static electricity draws dust like a maganet.Use a wire with a clip, or if your stand is metal, put a wet rag between the part and the stand, and a wet rag under the stand if your floor is wet.Anything to ground it helps. And I don't know if where you're at you have swamp-coolers...they pump water over pads that cool the air as it blows though. They also catch a lot of dust...I use one in my garage in the summer. If I let it run for a while all the dust blows out, then I spray in the garage doorway where the cooler creates an air draft that keeps more dust and small bugs out and also blows all the overspray out.
Yes, a really weird and strange contraption called a paint booth where cars get painted . They really do exist and you used to be able to rent them. Back when I was young and poor I used garages with a couple of breeze boxes and filter material on the intake side to keep out dirt and other crud. It didn't take long before I raised the bar after having some dust and insect problems. A month of prep work only to have it all screwed up in a few quick hours of painting in a poor environment . Nope, once is all it took me to learn.
