Question Buzz Test

So just exactly does one look for when doing a buzz test? I have a new ODBII device that, among other monitoring functions, will do contribution and buzz tests. But - no directions as to how to accomplish these tests.
HELP!

buzz test: key on engine off, run test. the injectors will all buzz for few second then each cylinder starting with one and ending with 8 will buzz for about 2 seconds. the main point of this is to test wiring but you can also listen to how each sounds. the codes will come up if there is an electrical problem. sound is a mechanical factor. the noise you hear is the pintle open and closing. if it doesn't make any noise the injector may have a mechanical problem or electircal problem but there will still be a light buzz even if the injector has a problem. this is residual buzz from other injectors. don't do this test too many times in a row as i have froze up/seized injectors from too many tests while trying to diagnose problems (i did the test like 30 times)

contirbution test is done with engine running warmed up. if the oil isn't warm enough it won't allow the test. this will help you diagnose injector failures or mechanical engine problems. pretty much will tell you which cyclinder to begin investegating.

Yep, thats all I noticed was buzz, buzz, buzz. Thats it, huh? I really didn't know what it was doing but I did know to run it with the engine off. Being basically a coward I also ran the contribution test with the engine off also. Nothing at all happened - duh.
lol

Plowhand; It is made by Auto Enginuity (http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-software.html) Its software and a ODBII device - you need a laptop to run it. Costs about $400 when you include the PSD option. Jury is still out on its capabilities.

1997; Thanks, bud, I just might take you up on that offer once the weather turns warmer. It was a tad chilly out this AM here in Seattle. And rain - good grief, it rains constantly.
