ive got a 93 150 4x4 I6 5 speed 4" lift 33 mts and just getting 4.10's and LS installed so im ready to tear somethin up
the badlands in IL is about 4.5 to 5 hours from us here. Awesome place. Lots of nice trails. Planning to make 2-3 runs there. For sure march and july and maybe a fall one too. Havent wheeled on the pipeline but have wheeled at McCaslin. The Cliffs is the closest about 2 hours south of here but its still too tight for anything full size. The early bronco comes out pretty scratched and beaten after a day there.

Badlands is in IN and it is fun but the best IN has to offer is Haspin Acres by far.
its McCaslin. I think the website to the campground is www.mccaslinmountain.com. I will try and find the link to some pics from the run from here last fall. KJ runs there quite often. We only get up there 2-3 times a year. There really isnt much of a website more about the camping there. You can also then run in the National Forest which KJ says is only a little down the road. Havent personally run there yet.
otherwise www.badlandsoffroad.com This is the website for the Badlands in Indiana the offroad place of my choice
Yeah, I like McCasslin Mountain because it has a little of everything. It's only two hours away so it doesn't cost me a mint to drive back and forth (I'm kinda cheap that way). It's located on Hwy F between Athelstane and Lakewood just past Kosir's Rafting (a Peshtigo rafting outfitter).
If anyone is interested in getting together and making a run up there, I'm ready. I just finished my wristed radius arm, twin stick, new dashboard and push-button start. I have my 4-link all designed, but I don't think I'll have the time or funds to get that going this winter.
OS what do you like better about Haspin than the Badlands. Always looking for a diffrent spot or 2 to wheel. How many acres? Trail levels? Rocks? Mike
What I like best about Haspin is that there is more of everything except sand. It's more of a clay based area with rocky areas too. The challenge level is higher IMO too. It seems that at the Badlands I already know everything there and the challanges seem "same old, same old". I've been to Haspin twice for 4 days total of riding and I still don't know the place inside and out unlike the Badlands which I found was easy to learn. Camping is real cool at Haspin too because you camp in the park. No matter where you go you can take your rig with you. Actually if you want to be different and camp out in the middle of the park far away from anyone else they don't mind that either. Your entry fee is basically a 24hr pass and camping is included. They also have decent free showers and sell hot food too. The web page doesn't do it any justice in my book, makes it look like an MX track but that's such a tiny part of it. Most of it is trails by far.
Is there any restrictions up at McCaslins, someone told me you couldnt run anything bigger than a 40 inch tire up there, and if thats true I'm out of the question
I would go up to langlade county. 3hrs north. Early-late spring you hit the loggin' roads, lots of public land...Great holes. rolling hills. all under a green canopy. I can't wait..
Thanks for the info. Might have to check that out. Already have dates in March and July set for the Badlands with some other EB's but might be able to squeeze a trip there in later. Keep us posted if you head out there.
McCaslin and tire size-- We heard when we there this fall that they are strict and do inspections on the busy weekends ie holidays. But when we were up in October a guy in the group was running 44s and we met 3 Chevys running pretty close to that. Since there was about 12-15 trucks in the place all weekend it was pretty lazz then.
The 40" tire rule has been slightly revised. You can run over 40" tires if you have a self-recovery system (winch). At least that's what Mike (the owner) told me last time I talked to him. What they're trying to get rid of is the 54" & 60" tractor tires that rut the heck out of everything.
I'm going to call him this week for some other stuff so I can ask for a clerification on that. Like Mike said, the inspections are usually on the big holiday weekends when all the crazy's come out.

No problem and I go down there early June every year. It's a decent drive but worth the trip IMO. I'll let you know when the date is set.
