Need casting number help 302

Can't find this number referenced anywhere, The block casting number is 74DY-6015-AB. I've looked all over the heads and can't find a casting number anywhere, only the "302" cast in each one and a "WCP" cast in one with a big "X" next to it. Any ideas?

Oldiron, could you possibly have made a mistake in transcribing that casting number? The first figure should be a letter designating the decade the block was made..as in "C' for the 1960s. The second figure is year of manufacture...in your case a 4 would mean '64 or '74 etc.
The "D" would mean it was originally in a Falcon. The "Y" usually means Lincoln-Mercury. 6015 is just the basic part number for a block.

I'm sure

I did a double check, and the casting numbers are correct as stated above.
I've broken out every interchange manual and resource I have on hand and can't find anything on this one. p.s. This engine came out of a '73 bronco. I have some paperwork that shows that the engine was replaced by the dealer in '85.

Thanks for the follow-up. That part number had me stumped. That MX block is just what you need for a high performance build up. I've read that they have a higher nickel content and use wider heavier main caps. Good luck with the engine project.

So would the lack of numbers on the heads be related to the MX block? I've got a set like that, and I was looking for a CC volume number.

I haven't taken the intake off yet so casting numbers there are still a mystery.

The Mexican blocks do have the thicker 289 Hi Po-style main caps, and I've heard for years that they have a higher nickel content, some of my books agree. But lately I've been hearing that they actually have a lower nickel content and had to be beefier in the casting to make up for it. Don't know who's right. Maybe you could break a chunk of casting flash off of that block and have it analyzed.

Does the block have two strange round ***** cast into the front, one on each side? That's one indicator of a Mexican block. It should have "Hecho en Mexico" cast into the lifter valley as well, you'll see it clearly when you get the intake off.

It's got the two protrusions in the front of the block. Don't know how I missed it (probably cause I wasn't looking).
