he he he I dont know, Im waiting for someone else to try it first!!!!, I had to drop the midship gas tank I had because I wanted dual exhaust to dump right under the cab.
I now have just 19 gal. tank
I heard these tanks are made by a major tank company and are sold other places as well. I found a custom made rear tank for mine and paid $18 for it at the local junk yards, the problem with this is that most junk yards punch holes in the tanks to drain out the gas (such a waste).
The tank I got seems pretty simple and I bet I could have made it for cheap. Basically it's just a thick steel box with a hole for the filler, guage, vent and some baffles inside.
As a side note, you know you'll have to move your spare tire if you have it in the rear below the bed.
I've noticed a few other places, haven't checked for sending unit prices though: http://www.actionsalvage.com/gastanks.asp for $190 new, http://www.auto-gastanks.com for $216 and http://www.smeal.net for $262. http://www.aerotanks.com has an interesting line including toolbox combos, but the prices aren't posted. (I do know aerotanks bolt to the frame). http://www.all-rite.com had a 44gal replacement, but I didn't see any prices. Hope this helps.
Because of an accident I discovered the J.C. Whitney tanks are made by a company in Portland Or.
The one I have for my Diesel is great. Its been in the Truck for Eleven Years now, and until a lady rear ended me, thaere's been no Rust at all!
Also, you can Braze the "punched tanks". I've done it. It takes a little time to soak it with Diesel to get all the Gasoline Residue out of the cracks and crannies in the tank, and then I put the Air Hose into the tank with a little air circulating and made a Patch and Brazed it on. Simple, and it works good. Have the Primer and undercoat read to apply as soon as the tank passes the air pressuer test.
Also if your truck isn't a 4X4 you can put a Saddle tank in, and there is an extra Capacity Saddle tank available from J.C.W. and from at least one aftermarket (Crossflow or something like that) supplier.
