yeah i have a 82' f150 w/ a 302, a couple days ago i noticed that it was leaking fluid from somewhere in the back of the motor. i can only notice it after parking and shutting it of, then you can hear the driping kind of noise and almost a hiss like its being let out under a high pressure. i think its the freeze plug but im not sure. any thoughts. and if it is how much of a pain in the butt will it be to replace?
Where do you live? Has the truck been overheated or completely frozen lately? The freeze plugs on the back of the head are a pain in the a$$ to get to. Best way is to pull the head. The only good thing is that with the head off you can investigate and find out why the plug popped in the first place. And make sure no other coolant is going somewhere it shouldn't.
dang it i was hopping it wasnt that, im espically hoping that it isnt a head gasket. i live in san jose. the truck hasnt frooze or overheated latley. last night it got hotter than normal cause of the leak. but i noticed when i pulled into where i was getting food it was at like the m on the scale and when i came out it was really close to the h. but when i started driving agian it dropped back down to the r on normal. the cool air while driving is helping it alot. i added a gallon and a half of water to the radiator last night. but when i drove home from work i wasnt driving long enough for the t-stat to open up to give me a temp reading
just got home and i pooped the hood to see if i couls see where the fluid was coming from and i noticed that there was a wet spot of where it sprayed at the fire wall. but top part of the mark is to high for it to be a blown head gasket. and its in th middle of the fire wall..right behind the carberator. is that close to where the freeze plugs are? or might it be the gasket on the intake maifold?
Usually when I hear of coolant leaks near the firewall I think of either a leaking heater hose or a heater core that is failing. If you don't see anywhere where it's leaking from the motor, you may want to take a look at those.
