Rear diff. drip, drip...
I own a 2WD '99 XL shortbed. Just to the left rear diff. pumpkin is what looks like an evaporator hose that starts at the top of the diff., curls around once and attaches to the underside of the bed. The base of the tube also acts as an anchor for the rear drum brake lines and for the lines coming in from the master cylinder. The problem is the slow dripping of rear diff. fluid coming from the top of the hose where it is a attached to the bed. Bad valve of some sort? Too much gear oil?(it's been 1.5 year since I changed out the fluid, but no drip until 3 months ago) Still plenty of fluid in the rear end, but it's annoying. What gives?

the hose is a vent for the differential. when the oil expands it pushes some air up and down the hose and keeps the end seals by the brakes from building up too much pressure and leaking. i dont think there should be a loop in the hose. it will get oil in the loop and then push out the top. the hose should have some flex for movememnt, but no downward loop. should be a plastic cap- breater type thing on the top probably.

Thank you for the feedback steve. I'm going into the dealership to get a grease fitting this weekend, I'll ask them take a gander at it (but by no means to fix it, those guys charge waaay too much..)
