I was replacing my shocks tonight and the new shocks were too wide at the bottom mount to fit the mount. The mounting bracket had been squeezed narrower when the previous shocks were installed. In order to get the bracket expanded, I slid some threaded rod through one side, and put two nuts on the rod, and keep threading them on until you have the rod through both bracket holes and two nuts on the threads inside the bracket. Now spin the nuts in opposite directions at the same time. This spreads the sides of the bracket nicely.
i usually go for a large adjustable wrench(12") and tighten the jaws down till they just slide over one side of the bracket, then just bend it outwards a little bit.
what ever works..... sometimes a wrench doesn't work.. it's just another method to get it done either way is better then beating your brains out trying to get the shock in there
