Hey everyone,.
Ok here goes. 1986 f-150 fwd 5.0 totally rebuilt the engine, proffessionally done and all new parts. installed a rv cam. new dist, coil, injectors, ignition module, knock sensor, o2 sensor, temp sensor, oil pump, alternator, regulator. plugs wires cap rotor etc. eliminated the pollution pump and the egr. this baby really runs nice, except.. it appears to be loosing spark only momentary then kicks right back in,the more you excellerate the harder it bucks. the only thing i have not replaced is the computer, and thats only because mine does not have any way to identify which one it is. and i'm told there were 7 different ones for that year. if anyone can help I would be greatful. the truck had a manual o.d tranny and when i rebuilt i put a three speed auto in it from an 1984 bronco. do not have air or power anything. thanks
I have an 81 f150 no emisions stuff no o2 sensor but I put an msd ignition in and it bipassed the old ignision box that might help you. I dont think you want to replace the
computer. you said you put a new module in? put the old one back in see if it still bucks. Just becous it is new dosen't mean it works right. Not sure how mutch or if it helps but worth a try. Good luck.

The computer is expecting the manual o.d tranny, so unless you can go to a junk yard and get a computer that is the same as your transmission, and engine...it'll never run right or replace the old tranny back in it. Most computers has the sticker on them, but even if you replaced the one with a new one unless you changed back to the old tranny thats the way its gonna be. The EGR and air pump are important also to put back on, other wise you'll have trouble with rich mixture of fuel which will wash out your rings overtime.
I don't think the '86 monitors the tranny. I have an '86 and it is the old AOD tranny and not an AODE that the computer watches.
You may want to check your distributor and make sure you have enough slack in the wires to the magnetic pickup. I have seen where the wires are too tight and when you accelerate, the advance pulls the wires. Eventually you get an internal break where the wire looks OK but the copper part has a break that only gets wide enough to break the current flow during acceleration.
It is rare but I had one that confused the heck out of me for weeks until I finally found it.
