when i pull 3 snowmobiles my truck is running at 3,000 rpm
when im doing 73 mph. is this ok for the truck to run that high of rpm for hundreds of miles. its a 2003 f150 xlt fx4 withe the 5.4 and towing package.
starting in silver bay MN. and up to the canadian border.its great snowmobiling up there. i will get the tag off the door and post it. im pretty sher it says 355 gears, but i think they might have been changed.looks like the differential covers have been off. they have a bunch of blue rtv gasket sealer around them.
I based my 4:10 guess on your RPM.
Unless you have little tires that's about what it would be.
This last weekend I took a set of 4:10s out of an 2000 2wd Explorer I recently bought (stock gears). For some moronic reason that year Ford only put 4:10s in if you got the XLT package, like nice interior and trailer towing go hand in hand? Go figure.
Mine was turning 2800 at 70 MPH, in overdrive, that's with stock 255/16 tires.
I don't tow and just run down the road so I put in 3:27s, now it turns a little over 2000. So far so good, drives more like my last one now.
