RPM towing question
RPM towing question
Hey guys, quick question. Until I can Replace my 3.73's with 4.30's, When towing my 30' 7500lb camper is 2500rpm's Ok when towing? The truck will hold in OD at 1800rpm's but it does feel like its lugging pretty hard. However with the OD off it turns up pretty good. either way mileage is sees the same so that not an issue, just trying to save transmission mostly.
No problem cruising at 2500 rpms. No problem cruising at 3000 rpms. It's where the engine is in it's power band. I do it all the time and sometimes I'm at 4000 rpms on some hills.
Regarding the 3:73s to 4:30s, I did it and made a significant improvement in the towing performance. Well worth it.
With that said, I hope to sell my truck and plan on putting the 3:73s back in as I only did the rears on my 4x4. I removed the front drive shaft. So, if you are planning on switching maybe we can work a deal. They are on a '01 F250. Not sure what you have.
