I found a filter adapter that fit well, over the filters end, into which there was a square in the center, for an extenson & ratchet.
After I used that & some of my stronger verbal urging's, off it came!!!!!
Sometimes things just need a good ole fashion cussin!!!!LOL
On the daughters new Kia, I could only get a strap wrench on the filter, but it's factory filter too, was on plenty tight & he strap wrench would just slip.
I ended up having to use some sand paper under the strap wrench, to get a better grip on the filter & sure enough, off it came.
So, if your strap wrenches are slipping, give em a little extra grip, with sand paper or emry cloth, between the wrench & item thats stuck. It could bring a satisfying grin to your troubled face & you can save those strong words for something more desrving of them!!!! LOL
Over the years i have tried about every kinda wrench you can buy but they always seem to need to be positioned in a place you can get to............i aint reusing a oil filter so for me the big long screwdriver always gets picked up FIRST!...you can poke it an an whatever angle u need, the key is to get a good bite......ie go in deep, but just a lil off center so u dont hit the core, once past the core it provides leverage for the end of the screwdriver so it wont slip out or tear......i have punched them out the other side before......now that is messy!...............but with a catch pan it shouldnt be too bad..........plus it makes me FEEL BETTER!!..............but then again i always did like punch those can tops with the spikey spouts as well.

that is an excellent idea. i never thought if that. i could use that at work. thanks!
well my dads a diesel truck driver and we have owned a few ourselfs and we come down to using three instraments to remove the most stubern of filters. The first in for most being a large pipe/monkey wench which we clamp on untill it shapes a filter to get the grip we want. then with all the extra leverage one pull pops it enough to remove it compleatly by hand. the screwdriver is also good but this is one of the cases wear size does matter. You need to have a drive long enough to give you the leverage needed to snap the first major tug then losen it buy hand or adjustable wrench. most people make the mistake of not going to far in and tear it into shreads. Like stated above the best way is to go through the filter and its core to the otherside at an angle. Last but not least my family has switched all posible cars and trucks to k&n filters. the reason being not there high oil pressure resistance, or ther filtertering strength(though it helps), but the fact that its the only filter we have found so far on the market that has a hex nut welded to the bottom to allow the use of a rachet. also within the rased nut it a hole for all the frendly screwdriver aggressers out there just in case
