If any of you guys enjoy talking on CB, I really suggest you look into amateur radio licencing. With a simple 30 min test and about 2 hrs of studying you can get a technician class amateur radio licence, and you can legitamately broadcast at 100W+. The nice thing about these frequencies is that you can connect to repeaters which basically rebroadcast your signal using very large, powerful antennas. An example is that with a small 25W unit mounted inside my car I can talk to people approximately 100 miles away using repeaters located around the state.
You also get an FCC issued call sign, just like a broadcast radio station. Mine's KC8QAC.
Take a look at the ARRL website if you're at all interested.
I'm good with my 4-5W CB, thanks. I found having a long range CB to be useless unless the people you are chatting with do as well. I live in NJ, there is no shortage of CB folks here at all.
You are 100% right, in fact, I run a stock CB as well.
The problem with running a boosted CB sometimes is that you can get way too much noise and its hard to actually hear someone.
even my old man (real dad ) whos a seasoned trucker cached in his decked out Galaxy radio for a stock one.
