94 Explorer Leaking Timing Chain Cover

Leaking anti-freeze. Not a bad leak but I want to get it fixed. Was at the local rad shop(very reputable/in biz for 35 yrs). The guy hasn't done one for a few years but wasn't worried(neither am I) but couldn't give me a quote yet as the book he had quoted 9.4hrs. He didn't think it should be that long and was going to get back to me. Anyone know what I should expect time wise? Anything I should be looking at once he has the cover off? The vehicle has about 113,000 miles on it.

Is it leaking from a bolt hole? My 94 was, tightened the leaking bolt about 1/4 turn and it stopped leaking. If that doesn't work and it's leaking from a hole, pull the leaking bolt out and put some RTV on the threads and put it back in. Some of the bolts on the timing cover go into a water passage. If it's the gasket, I have no ideas.

good luck.

i just had mine done on a 98 sport,if i remember correctly it was like 4 to 6 hours.they replaced the water pump also and it was like 600.00 labor.if you are planning on keeping it i would replace the timing chain, the tensioner, guides and everything else while you are in there.you don't want to go back in down the road and pay the labor again.just a suggestion?
