plastic powerstroke fuel filter cover

Does this cover have any function? My truck didn't have one when I bought it. Seems to be for looks only but thought I would ask.

Looks nice, however, my funds must go to performance/running enhancements before I go with the 'dress up'. My next target is the hpx line.

There is no real function to the cover. Mainly just to dress up the engine. I have one of the SS covers that Orezona pointed out, but it's an older style that I'm going to have to modify a little bit to clear my external regulator on my fuel system. The newer ones already have the part cut off (closest to the firewall) that allows for the regulated install. Here's what I have now:

It is a very nice piece. Although, I don't undestand why mine didn't come with the "7.3L" cut into it.

will this cover first a 1999 f350? Mine broke and can't find another one.
