I am at my wits end, got a 67 N-600 Ford dump truck used every day for my business, pulls to the right all wheels will lock up except the front left. Drum and lineing is good (about 50% lining), no cracks, changed the flex hose, changed the metal line to the master vacume assist. Changed the brake slave cup. And still all tires will lock and skid except the front left, and of course the truck pulls to the right. What am I forgetting????
Thanks!
Bob
Both drums are fairly new, we have been adjusting the shoes for days now, and the problem came on suddenly. We took the wheel cylinder apart and put in a new cup, piston move freely.
I think I may look into the master cylinder tomorrow and check if it has a dual outlet, maby there is an obstruction on one side if does so, other then that I am lost to know another reason..
Thank you for your input!
pull the line off the left front and have someone step on the pedal lightly. if you do not get fluid from the line you have a blockage . if you get fluid, then check to see if the wheel cylinder is operating properly, and it the pivot points are free.
I totally agree with the probably most likely being with the hydraulics. Sometimes as the trucks get older the flex hydraulic line from the axle to the backing plate/wheel cylinder will deteriorate and constrict the flow of fluid. That is the only thing that makes sense. Went out and looked at our old F450 - 1966 and it has a single master cylinder - all 4 corners on one circuit.
The master cylinder had one line to both fronts, the splitter was clear, I replaced both flex lines and nothing changed. But we switched the drums and shoes one side to the other, and what do you know? Stops perfectly! Go figure???
