thermostat problem

thermostat problem

i have a 1986 bronco II 2.9l thus far i have replaced radiator,water pump,thermostat..as long as the thermostat is removed,the temp guage barely moves,with thermostat in guage is pegged..could it be a bad senging unit?? is there a procedure to check it thanks for any ideas!

You could pull the sending unit, hang it in some water, heat the water to boil & see what your gauge does. Remember to ground the sender to complete the circuit. You could also check your thermostat this way.

thanks for the idea! i didn't thin kabout doing it that way,will do it this weekend. thanks again for the info

Sounds more like the thermostat is stuck shut OR is the wrong temperature for your climate. It sounds as if your radiator cap is holding and venting to the overflow (?). Leaving it out of the engine though... will eventually lead to overheating.

dont do a risk to overheat your bronco as you may know the head will most likley crack
