Talking New to offroad

I've recently got a 1994 ford f150 xl 5.0 v8. I'm very intrested in taking this thing for some fun in the woods but she's pretty much stock. well basicaly she is stock. anyway can anyone tell what would be the best mods to invest in besides a lift kit. I'm already looking at a winch but I'm not to sure what direction to take upgrades. Should I increase hoorsepower or should I work on the body/chassis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

get some tires. all the power in the world wont get you through and inch of mud if your running slicks.

There isn't a whole lot of help on the 302s with speed density unless you spend some serious bills. If you are going for some more power best thing to do is free up the intake and exhaust.

I'd go for tires first as well, then if you need more power do a gear swap. The more stock you can leave the drivetrain usually the better.

Congratulations! Now, get some mud tires. If it has automatic hubs, ditch them and get some manuals. A locker of some sort in the rear will help tremendously.

A junkyard MAF swap, cam, headers, throttle body, chip... well, I guess that runs in to a little $$$. With the stock speed density 302 and big tires, you're gonna' need gears.

Tires... don't care what else you do. If you spend all the money in the world on power, if you can't transfer it to traction, you will have a 500hp stick in the mud, and once they're stuck HP all looks the same.

A couple of things often overlooked are strong tow hooks and a recovery (******) strap. If you do get stuck you'll be a lot better off.

It came stock with manual hubs and I've been looking into some good tires. Thanks for the suggestions. Also could anyone tell me what would be the best name for lockers (ford 8.8) in the rear and what would be a good price for something like that.

a locker in a 8.8? i would think that a locker would eat that axle alive, you might be better off with a ls.

When you say locker what do you mean by that? My freind has a 92 8.8 that came factory with a limited slip. Im guessing when you say locker you mean the same as a spool or welding the gears?
