Radiator Upgrade

1986 Bronco II. I read how some people swapped for the early explorer. I found on in the salvage yard in great condition, but i dont know how to run the hoses. If anyone can tell me how they got thiers to work I would appreciate it.
thanks.

any 91-94 explorer with auto heavy duty radiator will do fine.
the one i got was from a 94 explorer with heavy duty cooling.
hooks up the same as your b2's.

do you just use the stock hoses? the 91 explorer radiator top outlet angles toward the passenger wheel, while the bronco points straight at the engine. seemed like too much stress on the hose when i put it on. Any suggestions? Thanks

get some flex hose found at advance auto parts or buy yourself the top hose for your rad.

Its in and works great. Had to get a little crative on the upper hose, but no leaks. Road tested it in the county for about 60 miles with 6 people in it. Oddly could still fit one more...lol. thaks everyone for the help.

Might have also spent about the same money for a radiator shop to put a double- or triple-row core on your stock radiator (unless the explorers have the same exact size radiator, but with more rows?) *shrug*

explorer radiator come with double row radiators and are just a little bigger and come in different cooling sizes. for example max cooling or heavy duty cooling.
only mod needed sometimes is upper radiator hose very few people need to do anything else.

Sweet. I'll look into that option vice a more expensive one, when I do the radiator upgrade on mine. I always generally just leave the heat all the way up and vent(s) on so it runs a little cooler. Even after fixing all of my coolant leaks, though... I do still need to do a really good power flush. The water jackets have a lot of sludge buildup, at least from what I can tell from repairing the driver's side head's freeze plug/block heater. My only thing is that I'd prefer an all-aluminum radiator instead of one with plastic tanks and an aluminum core. *shrug*

The one I pulled was two core from a 91 explorer. It would have been a lot more to get the core upgraded on my stock radiator than the 50 dollars that the salvage cost me. I had my rangers radiator upped by a radiator shop and i think it was like 170 for all the work.

So, basically a universal "Ford-style" all-aluminum double core radiator would be close to the same cost as having a shop re-core the stock radiator. Oouchie. Oh, well... as I get the time and have the money to spend, I will work on mine. I guess I should think about taking some "before" pics and post them, huh?

My hindparts hurt from the search I did earlier on car-part.com for a D30 from an early Bronco... although, not much different than similar Jeep D30's. I think that will be the first part of my driveline upgrade... SAS a D30 up front (although a more popular swap is the D44, but I'd like to try and retain the same track width, if I can)... then lift / 8.8 swap to the rear and all the driveshaft stuff.... weee
