Hutch mod fuel filter?

Just completed the hutch and harpoon mod on my tank, what in line filter is everyone using? I'm having a hard time finding a RACOR with a metal bowl, I don't really want a plastic one, as it invites problems if it gets hit by a rock or some other debris. I have a small cheap inline one on for the time being until I find the right one to bolt up under the frame....

Dahl 100 fuel filter / water separator. It's big, but mounts right up under the truck with lag bolts. I have a stock height 4x2, and even though it looks "dangerously low," it hasn't had a single problem with getting hit by anything. Far superior filtration and water separation, I even use a 2 micron full flow filter in it. Makes my fuel bowl Racor 10 micron filter almost useless.

Do I spy someone planning to do full SS tubing to the pump? Are those SS compression fittings too?

If you know Ken, you know that EVERYTHING is VERY "first class" on that truck!

Stainless seems to be his favorite material!

Good eye! Yes, I am going to replace all the tubing from the tank to the pump with rigid stainless steel 3/8" tubing. I will use a small section of braided flex hose at the tank and at the pump, everything else will be bent up to fit. I plan on mounting the filter behind the transfer case near my oil by-pass filter.

I have done the fuel tank mods on other trucks using the various kits others have bought, so I decided to build up my own kit and put a spin on it with rigid tubing and stainless fittings

Ken, where did you get the SS 3/8 tubing and fittings ? I have installed a Strickly Diesel Hutch kit and it came with the Baldwin BF1212 filter and the FB1311 filter head. But I don't like the stock fuel pump location and I want to move it back to right in front of the filter. Right now I have the pre filter about 4ft from the pick up and it is about 2 1/2 ft from pump (stock location). So that is making me rethink the placement of pre filter and fuel pump. The reason I put the pre filter 4ft from pick up and just behind tail shaft of trans is if I hit or ran over something it would be less app to come in contact with it. But I am rethink that thought too. So my question to you where did you get the tubing and where were you going to place the pre filter and pump ? Thanks

I picked up the 3/8" SS tubing and the fittings from Grainger. I went to my local Parker store to buy everything, but they did not stock 5/16" SS tubing. I ended upi going on Graingers site and found everything on there available. I get a disscount through them too, so it was just as cheap. If you have a hydraulic supply store near you, they should be able to get the tubing for you.

I was looking around for tubing and fittings, and too busy to buy. But most places has brass compression fittings. I didn't want to be limited to what I can run in my tank.. ie.. bio-diesel.. etc.. etc..

Good thing you you have those rubber hangers, the fuel pump is going to make that tube humm..

33007 Sorry missed a zero, but I also just realized what the OP was asking, after rereading the thread, sorry for the response with inline filters. I like the strictly kit setup.

I wouldn't get any fancier than a Racor PS120-2 fuel strainer. My fuel pressure gauge HATES pre-pump filtration.
