I say yes & the biggest reason is to get rid of the screens out of the tank.

The link Tom put up have great instructions & dropping the tank sounds like more of a PIA than it actually is. It's one of those deals that takes twice as long the 1st time you do it.

So the only real down side I see is having to put another filter in correct?

First mod I did back in Jan '08 and glad I did it.

No screens to clog in tank.
No air in fuel system.
Can easily check see through pre-pump filter.
No more fuel regurgitating out the fuel filler neck when refueling. That was a big problem on my truck.
Can get 33+ gallons in the 29 gallon tank.

TIP: I used 2 cam lock tie-downs stretched from frame rail to frame rail to lower the tank. No jack. Used ratcheting tie downs to lift tank back up. Used a floor jack for the last couple of inches to get the strap bolts started. Working alone the tie-downs are like a second pair of hands.

If you don't have a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter get one. Cutting the fill and vent tubes (Harpon Mod) will only take seconds, cut will be as close to top of tank as can be and no debris in tank to clean out as there would be if a saw were used.

If I do it again on another truck I will not remove the return fuel line quick-connect at the tank, but reuse it. It is oriented properly to handle the pressure of the return fuel.

Didn't want to run around getting a DIY kit together so I got this kit. LINK.

Def. worth the time & money IMHO - As far as the 2 filters, since I put the auxiliary filter under the truck the filter in the engine compartment never gets dirty. I have a fuel pressure gauge & just keep an eye on that. Think you'll be glad you did it.

That's not really a downside but and upgrade. I don't plan to remove my stock fuel bowl so I just used the small in-line pre-pump filter that came with the DI kit rather then an expensive spin-on type.

The one that came with kit and replacement available at Napa.

If your truck is running well now, you will probably not notice any "improvement" at all.

It is a preventive measure, as it eliminates the potential for clogging and air incursion into the fuel system.

However, if you DO have low flow rates, or lots of fuel foaming, then you WILL see some improvement.

That's great, so with this mod and the frx from riff raff my fuel system will be double filtered and air free.

wait, so this is what I need to do to not have the diesel volcano every time I fill up?? I'm so tired of having to stand there and manually stop the pump when I hear the fuel coming up the filler tube, how did this issue get past Ford??

Yes Sir. The Harpoon Mod (Harpoon was the username of the guy who thought it up) is a big bonus. No more wiping the fuel off the side of the truck, if you weren't paying attention, or taking an extra 5 minutes to completely fill the tank.

I can't wait to do mine. I'm saving up for the kit with the good filter. When filling up on the slowest setting, I can usually get 3-5 more gallons into it, filling it slowly. (I always fill to the neck.) I almost dropped it just to harpoon it.

I didn't do the mod yet, but if I start having fuel problems, I will do this. My truck is running good right now, knocking on wood.

You can do the Hutch & Harpoon mods now and then buy and intall the "better filter" later. In the mean time you will have the advantae of the mods. You won't have to drop the tank again. Adding a small inline filter now woud be less than 3 bucks.
