i'm looking for advice in finding fenderwell headers for a '82 F-150 with a 351windsor. this truck is a swb which will be recieving a flareside box this summer. plans are for 4-6" of lift with a dana 60 FF rear and a dana 50 front (until i can find either an older dana 44 hd that i can reweld the spring perches as i believe they don't have the perch cast in on the one side or a newer dana 60) i would like to use fenderwell headers because of the difficulty in running dual exhaust with the 4WD stuff and side mount gas tank in the way. would they be ok on a mostly street driven truck and any other suggestions or ideas are welcome. For those of you running fenderwell headers, where did you get them, how much and do you like them.
We tried to run a set on a 78 with a 351. 40 inch tires did not clear so we sold the headers. If those issues are not a problem, they will seal up with flanges like any other type. Your inner fenders will not like them because of the heat.
fender headers on street truck will more than likely reak some consequences, noise violations, inspections, or whatnot.
Ummm, are you thinking that he's planning on terminating his exhaust at the header or something? Fenderwell headers just change the location of the header collector and allow the exhaust and mufflers be run outside the frame instead of inside. No noiser or illegal than a standard header. They are a big advantage due to all the other junk our 4x4's already squeeze between the frame rails.
Not to steal the post but do you know who sells tractor headers or do you have to make them yourself? Where can you buy the build-it-yourself kit? Thanks
I haven't seen fenderwell headers for the 351. Not to say they don't exist but I haven't ever seen them. Lot's of options for the 460 of course, I'm running L&L Fenderwell headers on my truck and love them. I think if you had big tires with a small lift you'd be screwed. With my lift the headers are high enough the tires never touch them.
Sprocket, what engine are you looking for headers for?
ah ok, i was thinking he was talking about them exiting at the fender, theres a old cheby around here like that, and he gets hell about it all the time.

depends on engine you want to run, shoefeld, hooker, headman are some of the better known names, and with a little time I can come up with a few more but less known. I have also bought from DEC headers in ohio, (yes they have a web site you can check out)
you could always just run regualar headers and just have the exhaust shop bed some pipe so that the exhaust tubing goes outside of the frame right where the headers end.
I got a set of heddmans on my 79 250 with a 400 in it. I had to put longer bolts(with lots of threadlock) in for turning stops to keep from rubbing on the headers. Makes it a little harder to turn into tight parking spaces and roads. If they're on a woods truck not an issue. Oh yeah, I also rusted through both of them in about 3-4 years. They didn't like alot of mud and road salt I guess. Don't cheap out like I did. Get the coated ones
