Hmmm. You'd think somebody would have come along by now that had done this. I've got a 460/C6 sitting on a stand with the long term idea of making a tow vehicle. Are there things that you guys know of that render this unworkable? I suspect there might be need for firewall mods, steering, headers, inner fender panels, etc. Are frame mods required (other than mounts obviously)?

Haven't done the swap but it should work out okay. These trucks have huge engine bays so just about anything will fit. I know one of our members has a 500 inch Caddy in his and if that will fit then the 460 should too. It's been done many times in the 53-56 trucks and the 48-52 frame is only about 4 inches narrower.

I'd do some measuring...depending on what front suspension and headers you're running...you might have some interference problems..never hurts to check first.... a 460 fit in my '53 rails easily but with headers adding about 4" to each side it got a little crowded... considering you have suspension towers and steering column linkage to connect... just a thought..
here's a pic of my header fit on the drivers side and the clearance in a '53 frame... I had to extend the column to get linkage thru the hole... with 4" less room ...well, look close before you buy... I'd take some measurements for you but my truck is still disassembled and frame upside down on rotisserie..
evan, i put a 460 in my 49 and the only real problem was the headers, i got a set from sanderson that are made for this application. i did have to slide the radiator forward but all i did was use the holes farther forward on the radiator support i think they were for a 6 cylinder. i would have definately had inner fender problems but i did the tilt front end so i got around that one. it will fit but alot of little considerations.
John, did you buy your fiberglass frontend with the rear portion of the fenders cut, or did you modify yourself? Nevermind, just found your webpage and have been reading all the good info.

Ive put several 460's in 53-6 F100's with no difficulty. Using stock dual manifolds works a lot easier than fighting with headers.
I doubt if that F6 frame would present any real issues, it is the 47 and earlier that is quite narrow.
