Quality Control

Hi there,

I'm only 21 years old and even I'm disturbed at how things "Are'nt built like they used to". When-ever I go out to buy something these days the quality seems to be really bad. So to make sure it's good, while I'm in the store I usually beat it up a little... I'd rather break a display model than to buy it and then find out it's junk. My fiance makes fun of me because I do this. Do any of you take the same mentality when you shop or is it just me?

Sincerely,
Robert Nooy.

resaerch, research, research. consumer magazines are good places to start for big ticket stuff. the forum is a good place to ask about an item. most likely someone here has bought or used an item you are lookin at

Well I'm a 'few' year's older, ( 55 ), and from my perspective the general quality of the goods we by is excellent, especially electronics. The average consumer doesn't have the slightest idea how complex modern computers, cell phones, cameras etc. really are. If they did, they would be amazed that they work at all. The same also applies to autos and major appliances. That said, the old adage still applies -- you get what you pay for. Don't expect a $10 ChinaMart appliance to last forever.

Right on xlt, in this era, the ubuquitious Chinese goods are the weak link. If you buy them, just drop them into the trash as you walk out of the store. Save yourself the frustration of unpackaging it and having it fail right when you need to count on it.

I have been in the household appliance industry for longer than I care to remember, and I have noticed the quality on all the american made stuff drop off significantly. Starting about 15 years ago, and every year it gets worse and worse. Sometimes I think the USA brands can't make something cheaper and crappier, but every year they make some change to it to make it a worse product. All the while the Koreans are building their products better and better. I never thought I would see the day when I would reccomend Korean built products over things built right here in the USA.

Its sad

Our 27 year old Whirlpool washer and dryer are due for replacement. Any recommendations on brands that are good or ones to avoid?
