Pro or against Wal-Mart

My wife works for a union competitor of Wal-Mart (Meijers which is no slouch itself). It's just a hobby for my wife to get out of the house really.

I went to Wal-Mart and couldn't believe the deals they had... Size 14 shoes for $10 for example. Most stores don't even have size 14 let alone for $10.

I figure with how much money we can save it's worth it.

To add insult to injury- wife found out that Wal-Mart starts it's cashiers at a higher wage than her union store- even higher than people who have worked for a few years at Meijers.

Now you could argue that union people would get better treatment- I don't agree.

What I've seen at Wal-Mart is a bunch of Grannies and Gramps that have been there for years.

Meijers has an us against them mentality for sure.

I know Wal_Mart seems to be really controversial- but it seems to be a win-win around here.

Its a good place to buy shampoo, quaker state oil, and tide cheap, and other stuff like that. So thats why I'm for Wall-Mart, The one thing I dont like about Wall-Mart is all the Fast and Furious merchandice they carry.

I go there because it's close
But I dont tend to buy groceries there, or automotive things
Just shampoo, deodorant, sporting goods, etc
Unless I know another store has the sportings good cheaper, I'll go to Walmart
I voted against Walmart tho

The only reason I don't like wal-mart is because of them killing all the small stores. I also hate having to search all over a huge store to find one little thing, then stand in line for 10 minutes. Wal-mart makes hundreds of billions a year, so why don't they use faster cash registers? I worked at Giant Eagle before, and we could get a 200 dollar purchase throught the line in 2 minutes.

Walmarts around here are getting the new self checkouts
They are a PITA I tell ya
You scan it, put it in the sack and it knwos the weight of it
So if you have 5 of one thing, you cant just scan the one thing 5 times and place them in the sack, you have to scan, put in sack, scan, put in sack, etc etc etc
It's a crazy thing, I hate it and won't use it again
What I always do if I have to go there, is park in automotive, go get what i need (usually sporting goods or something of that nature) and then check out back there
Less of a line, less of a PITA, and less time there

I LOVE Wal-Mart. If I had a Super Wal-Mart where I live, I would have all my shopping and grocery shopping done in the same place. I don't buy a lot of clothes there, except stuff that I plan on getting dirty, but for everything else I need, there's no better place. Even Sam's Club is great when you need to buy stuff in bulk. And no offense to anyone, but I really dislike unions altogether. Perfect example is the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. The civilians in the union have 80 percent of the parking on the base reserved for them....while the 10,000 sailors have hardly any parking at all. It's a military base, for pete's sake, not just a shipyard. But anyway, hooray for Wal-Mart.

I never shop at Wal-mart. They shut down a lot of the small mom and pop stores around here..... People that are friends and neighbors who have built and lived in this community for years. Plus a lot of stuff they (Wal-Mart ) sell like power and hand tools are junk.

I only get my oil and filter from them (no one else in town sells the kind I like), and stuff late at night when everyone else is closed. Being part of a family business myself, I go to mom and pop shops for other stuff. Wal mart is no threat to me, but Staples is, so I go to Office Max instead.

mom and pop need to retire. If their service was so much better, how come everybody ran for Walmart when it opened?

Mom and Pop need to retire huh?
They ran to Walmart because they think everything there is better
I will GUARANTEE mom and pop stores have better quality items, and are nicer people than the ones you see at walmart. And they have personally used the items and know what they are instead of going "uh whats that?"

If it's late at night and I absolutely need something that only the 24 Hour Wal-Mart has, I'll go to Wal-Mart. Otherwise, I shop somewhere else.

Good thinking Sinjin, lets get rid of all the small businesses and all goto 5 big coorporations for everything that we could possibily need. Right. Watch/Listen to Alan Jackson's song "Little Man" I share the same views.

I feel insulted when I walk into Walmart, the place is trash. Look at anything that Walmart carries, why do you think it's so cheap? It's made in 15 3rd world countries out of the cheapest materials possible.
