Buying appliances
I'm looking for a new fridge. Bought one just a few years ago, but it leaks water into the crispers. Had it fixed last summer, but it seems to be starting again. (Basic design issue, made worse by all of the energy efficiency stuff)
We'd like another french door model, and it can't be too tall. (68 and a fraction will work). Problem is that they have don't stock more than one model -- even though they carry many others. I really want to kick the tires on something that's going to cost something over a thousand bucks. Not to mention how much of a PITA it will be to get it replaced if it turns out to be a junk design.
Seems to be a general problem with all types of appliances. They only stock built in dishwashers - not portable. And I'm sure that the selection of stoves is limited as well.
I've looked at Lowes, Best Buy and Home D -- pretty much the same everywhere. The small appliance dealers seem to have folded due to the big store prices, so there you are.
Any suggestions for actually seeing something before I buy it?
Thanks,
hj
Lowes hands down has the best selection and price point of any of them. Plus, they allow you to stack savings and if you have a Lowe's card, you can opt for another 5% off or interest free financing for six months. They'll deliver it and pick up your old model and install your new one.
Before buying a dryer or an electric stove, take a moment to check your breakers amp ratings in your box. and compare that to what you're looking at. You may have to look at another product or have your breakers changed to meet your new requirements.
