cheap packaging

There is a type of plastic packaging that is used often on cheap electronics. Usually there are two types of packaging for electronics. For expensive gadgets, you get the good old paper box. But for the cheap stuff, you get those 2-piece stamped together plastic package that hangs from a shelf.

In my opinion, the latter sucks. They are a pain to open. Are you supposed to cut it open with a scissor? Because my finger hurts everytime I do that.

And plus once you open it it's hard to return or put it back into the package.

Why can't they make it smarter? An "easy to open" mechanism would be nice.

That's called a "Blister pack" for good reason.

They do that for anti-theft reasons, they also insert a magnetic sticker that can't be seen behind any of the paper packaging inside.

Plus, This plastic is made from petroleum products and not trees

Those blister packs suck to get open. I usually end up cutting them right where they come together, or I take a knife and cut around the product that I am trying to get out.

I stab em with my pocket knife. Usually around where it starts widening for the product. Or i take my lexan scissor, used in my rc hobby, there like 6 bucks at a hobbystore. They cut through it like butter.

Shouldn't that be bad? I mean, those plastic packagings are really bad for the environment since they are not biodegradable.

Paper boxes are better since they are biodegradable. They kills trees but at least tree is a renewable resource. And there are new paper technologies availiable that uses agricultural waste.

The blister pack gives a cheap feel and it's a pain to open. You can either ruin your scissor or make your finger hurt, sometimes it can even scratch the electronics inside when you are struggling to take it out. In my opinion they should be phased out.

My point was: the industry wants as many people to use petroleum products as possible so they sell more oil

I think they should use re-cycled paper

Blister packaging sells product. If you can see it, you are more likely to buy it. Blister packaging takes up less storage space, and the product is usually close to arm/eye level on a peg hook instead of on the shelf.

It is cheaper to produce. It's less labor intensive to enclose and ship the product, plus, once you open it, most places won't take it back because you can't reseal it.

I was in retail many years. A blister packed item would sell quicker for more money that a better quality less expensive item in a box, or even displayed bulk in an open container.

With blister packaging you will not need a sales person to sell you an item from a display, and then hunt for that item in a box on the shelf, or in back. On top of that, a box is sealed, and you don't know if it is the same thing, or the condition of the boxed product.

Millions of dollars have been spent to determine how to sell the most items with the least expense involved. Blister packaging sells items, like it or not.

True, but it's still a pain to get them open sometimes. You can't tear them open, and for some reason I never seem to have a razor knife or anything handy when I'm trying to get one open.

Really sucks when you buy something at the last minute when you're leaving for a trip and you're out there in the parking lot trying to get the sucker open, with no sharp instrument in the vehicle.

I call it "Consumer-proof Packaging".

Not as good as you think it is. I go to school with a guy that used to get in trouble for shoplifting. He said once upon a time. He would take that packaging to a part of the store with not many cameras, Find a pair of scissors and just cut that packing open and walk out..

sometimes it works but sometimes it dont...

shoplifting just isnt worth it, with all the new fangled tiny cameras and secret shopers, and even computerized do not allow list. gone forever are the days of swiping something only to be shown to the door by a manager. i see all the time now leaving wally world there will be a cop car pulled up in front and some guy pressed against the wall as a cop digs trough his shoes.

i do hate making a legal purchase only to have the damn alarm go off as i walk through the door. then youve gotta fumble around for the damn recite as the people go digging through your bags.

I always use my buck knife, cut around 3 sides of the bubble and flip it open.
