I am going to buy a scanner, BUT I can't decide which one to get. I would like to be able to use it on a (92 - F250), (93 - F250), (2005 - Super Duty) all gas and a (2000 excursion with 7.3 powerstroke Diesel ) I have heard that I wont be able to use it on the diesel engine but maybe it would be able to read the ABS system on all four trucks, is this possible. Also will it be able to tell me which COP (coil on plug) is not working properly. which one would you buy. Thanks for reading this and Please advise
Rackpatrol,
I bought an Autoxray Ez-Scan 5000 and it works great. It does ODB I and II. You can check them out on the web for details on ABS. Snap-On also has a new scanner called the Micro. I have not played with one yet but my employer's shop has one and the mechanic lives the little thing. Both are about the same price. You can also get some great deals on E-Bay. LindenBruce

OBDII is only on vehicles(all foreign and domestic) after 1996
OBDI is from like from the mid 1980's trough 1995
Many code readers will read both with adaptors
some kits are inexpensive and may cost more with accessories
You can get free use from AutoZone

Addressing your COP question. The OBDII will be able to read the individual COP if it is throwing a code. Sometimes they do not. No luck with the OBDI. That is where a Coil Diagnosis tool comes in. Waekon’s Coil On Plug Ignition Quick Probe (WAE76560). Just one of many good tools out there.
The diesel is your only problem...for the engine components, the computer communicates with a different singal to the scanner. Its an OBDII port but they wont communicate with each other, but i belive i was told when i bought my PC scan software that the abs will work weather or not its a gas/diesel.
Thanks, I am waiting for more info from there TECH. support. If it is worth repeating, then I will Post it for the rest of you. Any further input will be welcome
Will the Diablo read other trucks than the one its programmed on? What if you buy it for the realtime scanner and don't program with it, will it read then?
