i didn't get a key fob with my truck when i bought it. i have searched and found the process to program a new key fob, but i also found a thread that indicated if your truck didn't come from the factory with a key fob you may not be able to program one. i would have thought that it would have been packaged with power door locks.
so how can i figure out if it ever had one or not, i do have some information that may or may not be useful (have the original window sticker)
its a 2005 f350
the truck has
power windows
power door locks
power mirrors
is a xlt
preferred equipment pkg .617a (not sure what this means)
not sure what else might help try to figure out if it is set up for a key fob or not.
don't really want to buy a key fob to see if it can be programmed to the truck or not.
Find a buddy with a key fob. Then program it to yours. 1 key fob can actually work several cars at one time. You can also erase an old key fob as well so it isnt permanent.
Can you get the truck to enter the program mode? If not, and from the looks of it, you do not have RKE (remote keyless entry). You CAN NOT just add the key fob or program. The wiring for the RKE is totally different that the wiring for the NON RKE system. I added an aftermarket system to my 2003, less than $50 and that includes 2 remotes. Another option is adding a remote start system. This would give you RKE and remote start.
The NON RKE system is a type C (reverse polarity) system and the RKE is type B system. - pulse.

If you have the VIN you can look up the options here https://www.etis.ford.com/
Click the vehicle tab, enter VIN and then make sure you click the minor features tab (down arrow) on the far right. If you DO have RKE it will say "with remote keyless entry"

i don't know why i didn't think of that, so simple....lol tried 3 times to get it to enter the program mode, it did not. so therefore i will have to look into the aftermarket.

With Central Locking System
Less Door Entry Remote Control Unit
Less Keyless Entry System
If you want to add the aftermarket keyless remote let me know. I went through it and can help. Personally I would shop around to have a remote start kit installed. I was quoted $350 to $600. You can do it yourself and save but it is not easy.
One up side with not having it. You don't have to interface both systems
if you add remote start and entry along with an alarm. Getting to be a needed ite.
i think im just going to leave it be for now. i see some aftermarket systems for just door locks for about 15 bucks.
remote start i could take it or leave it, don't really want a alarm cause ill probably be the only one ever setting it off.
i do like key less entry though. saves issues with door locks freezing, scratches around the key hole ect. i was really hoping to be able to get a fob and program it to the truck
The way to positively identify whether your truck is equipped or not, is to simply look for the five button keyless entry keypad on the driver's door. If it has it, it DOES have a VSM (Vehicle Security Module) along with Autolamp, a sunload sensor and RKE.
